SQE 1- Contract Law (Online) 

Introduction

This course will help candidates preparing for the SQE1 assessment to revise the relevant core principles and rules of contract aw. Students will learn how to apply the fundamental legal principles and rules at the level required by the SQE and for a competently newly qualified solicitor in practice. 

Students will be able to test their contract’s knowledge and familiarity with legal principles and rules, using scenarios drawn through professional experience and through MCQs in preparation for the SQE Assessment. The Mock Workshop will be held on 26 March 2023.

  • Existence and formation of a contract: Offer and acceptance
  • Existence and formation of a contract: Consideration
  • Existence and formation of a contract: Certainty of terms, intention to create legal relations and capacity 
  • Privity of contract and rights of third parties
  • Content of contracts 1 – sources and interpretation
  • Contents of a contract 2 – exemption clauses and unfair terms
  • Misrepresentation
  • Vitiating elements – misrepresentation, mistake, duress, undue influence, illegality
  • Discharge of contract and remedies – Discharge
  • Remedies
